Anthea Feaver: This Whole World (Bringing Me Down) & Eleanor

Anthea Feaver: This Whole World (Bringing Me Down) & Eleanor

Wolfe Island-based singer-songwriter and folk musician Anthea Feaver announces the release of two new tracks on December 17th: “This Whole World (Bringing Me Down)” and “Eleanor.”

Recorded in Kingston, Ontario by Arden Rogalsky, the songs feature sparse, feathery fingerpicked acoustic guitar coupled with poetic lyrics contemplating how we move down life’s road.

“This Whole World (Bringing Me Down),” is a gentle and weirdly uplifting elegy for the apocalypse. The densely playful lyrics co-written with Haley Sarfeld in 2019 span topics from reproductive rights to consumerism, while the simple and catchy chorus—”The whole world’s bringing me down”—brings listeners together to bemoan the downers of 21st century life. This track’s influences include 60s folk and modernist poetry, while Rogalsky’s addition of percussion gives it a distinctive indie-folk drive.

With a series of scattered images evoking summer road trips and childhood fantasies, “Eleanor” ruminates on the relationship between memory and time and the ceaseless forward— and downward—motion of life. Feaver’s keen attention to small details brings out the little aches of childhood in this travel song which sits thematically somewhere between Big Thief and the Mountain Goats.
